What is SUBDUCTION???

The new collection is called SUBDUCTION but what does that mean? It kind of sounds and looks like seduction. Many of the pieces and the lovely ladies wearing them are seducing but in fact subduction has its own special significance. 

Subduction is a geologic process which has informed and developed the geography  and geology of the pacific North West. As the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate converges with the North American plate, it slides under it (subduction) which creates volcanos and strong earthquakes among other things! The plate boundaries are off shore, deep under the ocean. 

This fascinating process happens very slowly every day and usually goes unnoticed but the results of it can be seen in the dynamic Pacific NW landscape.

ARC NECKLACE

Volcanic arcs form where subduction is occurring. In the Pacific NW, a line of volcanoes has formed from BC Canada down to Northern California

As one tectonic plate moves under the other, it creates a build up of layered fanned out sedaments called an acreationary prism. 

SHIELD & STRATO BRACELETS

These represent two types of volcanos (upside down). Shield volcanos are low profile and have more mellow eruptions. Strato volcanos are conical and can have powerful eruptions like Mount St.Helens
